Artist Feature: Ayisa

Planetary Group took some time to get to know Ayisa…

Planetary Group: Tell us about your latest release. What inspired its creation?

Ayisa: My latest release is a single called “Stay”, which I included on a radio exclusive EP. The song is about how in every relationship you can be faced with the decision of whether or not you want to stay or leave. And how just that simple idea can often be a bit debilitating.

PG: Share a bit about your musical journey, from when you first started making music until now.

Ayisa: I technically started writing when I was a kid, but didn’t really start professionally making music until about 18 years old. And then a few years after turning 18, I started my own alternative rock band. And then in 2019, I made the transition into pop music.

PG: Let’s talk about the music that you love. Pick one album for each category below & tell us a bit about it!

  1. An album you grew up listening to:

Ayisa: I listened to so many albums. It’s hard to pick just one, but I will go with all of the Paramore albums… I would say Riot, but I’m going to say all of them because I listened to all of them on repeat!

I think that was just a pivotal moment in my life where I was feeling very angsty; I think it was about middle school or high school, and that’s when you feel the most angsty! Every song just spoke to how I was feeling at the time. Plus [Hayley Williams] was like a bad-ass frontwoman to a rock band. And that was pretty cool.

  1. An album that inspires you as an artist (I’m sure there are many, but pick one of your choosing):

Ayisa: I can’t pick just one because I constantly go from artist to artist, genre to genre – there’s not just one single one.

  1. The album you currently have on repeat:

Ayisa: Because it just dropped, it’s Avril Lavigne’s Love Sux!

PG: What do you want people to take away from your music?

Ayisa: I just want people to feel good about themselves and feel joy!

What’s next up for you?

Ayisa: What’s up next for me is a more traditional style EP, not just a radio exclusive one, which I’m really excited about. I want it to make people dance, because it’s a very dance-y vibe!

Check out Ayisa’s latest single “Stay”, and keep an ear out for the radio EP as well!
